Illustration on the fly is default to "Not embedded". Which illustrations are replaced by a Photo icon ( this is to reduce the bandwidth ), clicking the Photo icon will begin download and display the image.
To enable automatic on-the-fly feature. Goto:
Settings > Layout > Content Reader > Others > Embed Illustration
